Dispelling the myth
(last updated: 16th February 2024)

We will now focus on dispelling the myth that human beings are descendants of monkeys, sterling creatures though they are.

We begin with a question:
Can you distinguish one monkey from another other than by examination of a few basic characteristics such as colour, size and shape? The answer is a resounding NO, because they all look and behave in much the same way! There is little complexity or unpredictability in their behaviour.

Second question:
Can we tell the difference between one person and another, and between people and other life forms?

A definite YES! There are many discernable differences other than ones applicable to animals:

Facial appearance.
Personality traits such as kindliness, consideration for others, generosity of spirit, etc.
Interests and hobbies.
Talents including academic ability, sporting achievements, artistic skills, etc.
Social skills/graces.
People are born with a conscience therefore know the difference between right and wrong. As a result society has a justice system.
Acquisition of knowledge, retention and recall of the same.
Language skills.
Practical skills, inventiveness.
Physical and mental strength and endurance.
Resourcefulness.
Appreciation of music and poetry and the ability to write the same.

Memorising key events and experiences in life and being able to recall them with ease

The ability to play musical instruments and to sing with our voices.
Complex emotions. Laughter and sense of humour.
Caring and sacrificing ourselves for others in times of trouble.
Building of complex societies.
To read, understand and learn from books.
Ability to communicate with others in various different ways.
Ability to design, build and operate complex machinery such as aeroplanes, satellites, etc.
Invention of TV, radio, computers, the Internet, etc.
Record and appreciate history.

The one attribute that is common to all of us, according to Christian teaching, is that we possess a soul:
Jesus replied in Matthew 22:37: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'
This must be one of our our most significant distinguishing characteristic because of its connection with the promise of Eternal Life.
Finally, and most importantly, Genesis 1:27: 'So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them'. There lies a big difference between the latter and most if not all of the others. Only those who accept Genesis as fact will believe it is true. If you accept that it is true it is overwhelming evidence of our uniqueness.

The above is not meant to be an exhaustive list but it gives an idea of the complexity inherent in all of us, setting us apart from all other created kinds.

None of these attributes and capabilities are possessed by any other creature on Earth.

So, the final question is, 'how did monkeys become so talented and turn into humans over time given that the supposed source of such enrichment came from random mutations that we now know cause damage to the genome of organisms and therefore do not add to, or improve, what was already there'. In fact random mutations are one of the main causes of ageing and death. Once a monkey, always a monkey; once a cuckoo, always a cuckoo. Any changes that occur over time yield variants that are still recognisable as monkeys or birds. Try teaching a monkey or any other creature just one of the talents above! This brings us back down to Earth, because we cannot, however hard we try! God could, but He would have to redesign the monkey. Monkeys, for example, do not have the mental capacity, or the inclination, to acquire such skills and capabilities. Monkeys can learn to crack open a nut by copying a parent, but that is about it. They do not have the design features that would enable them to make any progress in this direction, and it would be derisible to suggest otherwise. Having said that it will probably only be a matter of time before a clever scientist implants human brain tissue into a monkey, or tweaks a monkeys brain. Immediately there would be a claim in New Scientist that life has been created in the laboratory when all that had occured was the transplantation of existing tissue, courtesy of God, into a new location, or manipulation of existing genetic information! It would not be beyond the realms of possibilty that an unscrupulous scientist in the future would secretly carry out such a procedure then reveal the result to the public claiming it to be a new transitional form, the Holy Grail of the evolutionist. Close examination of the specimen would eventually give the game away.

Despite an intensive search of the fossil record over the past 150 years for ape to human transitional forms no convincing specimens have been found. Darwin himself confessed that if microbes to man transitional forms could not be found his theory would be dead on the ground. Human beings are unique and had all the characteristics above from the very beginning, and monkeys have acquired none of those characteristics over time, and never will. If monkeys slowly evolved over time to develop increasingly more human attributes, eventually producing a break away species, you would expect to find evidence for this in today's World. You would expect to be able to identify groups within human society with differing degrees of intellectual sophistication. In reality there is no evidence people possess more, or indeed less, of the above attributes today than they did 2000 or more years ago. People today have greater knowledge because of the passage of time, research, and the wide availability of reading materials, but this is not down to evolution but the use of the talents above available to us from the beginning. The plain truth is that such a transitional form does not exist within the human domain and never has. All human beings from the beginning of time were born with these characteristics, and exhibited them to a varying degree from person to person, and no other creature throughout history has ever had any of them. So where does that leave Darwin's Theory? The answer is a resounding, 'dead on the ground'!

We are a unique and sophisticated species and this sets us far apart from all other creatures. So how did this complexity arise? The only plausible explanation is that we were designed the way we are for a purpose, as indeed all the other kinds of creature were.

The evidence is overwhelming that evolutionary mechanisms could not have given rise to the sophistication that is plainly evident in each one of us, which we take for granted throughout our lives. This enormous portfolio of talents was given to enable us to care for the planet, and for one another, and what a mess we are reported to be making of that responsibility right now!

In conclusion, no transitional forms have been found linking different 'Biblical Kinds' or baramins.
