A God Forsaken World? (last updated: 20th April 2023
Bad news
As a civilisation we now tend to greatly admire, even revere, the scientists and engineers who are continually providing us with the amazing technology
that has come to define our Modern World:
Satellite TV,
Mobile phones,
Electric cars,
the list is endless.
Yet, even those who believe there is a God, rarely spend time thanking the mastermind who meticulously designed these same engineers and scientists
in the first place. How can this be justified? It seems we are too pre-occupied with managing our own lives. It doesn't occur to us that the same mastermind
is there to help us as individuals manage the difficulties with which we all face from time to time. There is ample historical evidence in the Bible that
He is indeed 'The Helper' and given His mind blowing skills we could wish for no better source of help.
This failure to give honour and Glory to the architect of it all has led to us becoming much more inclined to worship people rather than God. It is
undeniable that we have this inbuilt need to worship something/some body. I wonder where this emanates from, why it is there, and who it is intended for?
We not infrequently speak of a 'God forsaken World', but the truth is that we have forsaken Him. Even so, those who doubt God's existence readily blame Him
for their woes. We tend to blame God when things go wrong even if we are God deniers, but routinely fail to thank Him for the multitude of good things
included, for example, in the natural world that we benefit from virtually every day of our lives.
Are there any churches left that still sing hymns such as:
Lyrics: Charles Wesley (1707-1788)
Music: John Zundel (1815-1882)
1
Love Divine, all love excelling,
Joy of heav'n, to earth come down;
Fix in us Thy humble dwelling,
All Thy faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, Thou art all compassion;
Pure, unbounded love Thou art;
Visit us with Thy salvation,
Enter every trembling heart.
2
Breathe, O breathe Thy loving Spirit
Into every troubled breast;
Let us all in Thee inherit,
Let us find the promised rest.
Take away the love of sinning;
Alpha and Omega be;
End of faith, as its beginning,
Set our hearts at liberty.
3
Come, Almighty, to deliver,
Let us all Thy life receive;
May Thy presence e'er be with us,
Never more Thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing,
Serve Thee as Thou wouldst approve,
Pray, and praise Thee without ceasing,
Glory in Thy perfect love.
4
Finish, then, Thy new creation;
Pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see Thy great salvation
Perfectly restored in Thee;
Changed from glory into glory
Till with Thee we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before Thee,
Lost in wonder, love and praise.
Do schools still sing: "All things Bright and Beautiful," by Cecil F. Alexander?
We live in a world increasingly obsessed with the power and prowess of man, with God, at best, playing 2nd fiddle.
