Real marriage and standards of morality in decline (last updated: 21st June 2025)
The cause of the rot
We are witnessing the gradual wrecking of traditional marriage and traditional ways of life that have stood for time immemorial.
Why are we allowing this to happen you might ask, is this justifiable? The evidence is there for all to see, an erosion accelerating after Charles Darwin's book
'On the Origin of Species', was published undermining belief in a Creator. The outcome:
1) Promotion of Neo-Darwinism in many schools, and most Universities, as the explanation for the emergence and development of life on our planet.
2) Evolution theory undermining belief in the Bible causing rejection of the Genesis account leading to increasing disbelief in the existence of a Creator God.
3) The Bible has many references to the meaning of marriage as being between a man and a woman. e.g. Jesus speaking in Matthew 19:4-6. Society now supports
modifying this definition of marriage to include new variants on demand!
4) Many in Society having rejected God now feel free to re-write how lives should be lived. Every alternative ungodly lifestyle drempt up by mankind is being
given approval by society, influencing young and old minds alike.
Right and wrong are concepts that are increasingly going out of fashion and society is suffering as
a result with aberrations becoming rife such as:
a) child sexual abuse.
b) lack of respect for adults leading to poor discipline in schools.
c) increased drug taking.
d) sexual perversions studied in depth in primary school lessons courtesy of materials supplied by organisations such as Stonewall.
e) lack of parental control.
f) minority pressure groups demonstrating on our streets to persuade the public that their warped, unconventional views should hold sway.
g) every man and woman increasingly out for themselves.
These deviant behaviours have always been present in society to some extent but they have become much more prevalent and contagious in recent times
including amongst some in the Church hierarchy.
Need evidence? This is easily acquired (August 2025):
The Church in Wales has just named a new Archbishop who is openly in a same-sex relationship, drawing sharp criticism from the rights group
Christian Concern. The appointment has ignited a debate over the Anglican denomination's commitment to traditional biblical teachings.
The Rt. Rev. Cherry Vann, 66, the bishop of Monmouth, was elected as the 15th archbishop of Wales, becoming the first woman and first
openly lesbian to hold the post. So the Church in Wales has thrown the Bible teaching on sexual ethics out of the window! Could they
not have found a heterosexual female to hold the post? Are they embarking on some new moral crusade to promote homosexuality?
We are not suggesting for one moment that this deviancy is widespread in relious circles, and The Church in Wales is a separate entity to the
Church of England which can therefore continue to hold its head high. I wonder though what the next Archbishop of Canterbury will have hidden in the cupboard?
Do they really
think the public at large will approve of this off the rails attention seeking behavior and flock to the stalls, or are they simply resigning themselves
to abolition of the movement, even accelerating its demise, in line with the Scottish Episcopal Church?
This latest news should come as no surprise however
given the state of affairs presided over by Archbishop Cherry's predecessor, the Rt. Rev. Andrew John, who stepped down last month after
only three-and-a-half years in office. His departure followed the release of a safeguarding review at Bangor Cathedral, which found
evidence of a culture involving sexual misconduct, bullying, blurred sexual boundaries and excessive drinking.
Society can no longer expect Church leaders to be held up as exemplars of high moral standards. Those days are sadly receding not helped by the
medias delight in bringing the publics attention to any perceived wrong doing by the clergy.
The focus is no longer on the 99 percent good
that they do.
The Christian Institute stands firm on the message of the Bible and has highlighted the response of GAFCON to the appointment in Wales:
The Most Reverend Dr Laurent Mbanda, Chairman of the GAFCON Primates Council, described the appointment of Vann as "a serious error"
contrary to the Bible's teaching on sexual ethics:
Church expelled from local schools for upholding biblical sexual ethics
Christian Concerns response to the appointment in Wales:
Christian Concern's Chief Executive Andrea Williams noted that The Rt. Rev. Cherry Vann Bishop of
Monmouth's election, with the support of two-thirds of the electoral college, signals that the Church in Wales has institutionally turned
away from biblical teaching.
The decline in moral standards within society is due at least in
part to a steep reduction in Church attendance. This should not surprise anyone as the public have understandably to a degree lost respect for
the Church given what has been brought to light in the press in recent years.
The renowned atheist Richard Dawkins commented that he laments decline of 'cultural Christianity', as he calls it, in the UK amid surging Islam.
The media also does little to help support the christian viewpoint. Christianity, Islam, etc., is all the same to them!
Unfortunately the Church along with other Institutions of State seem afraid to take a stand and publicly denounce these abhorrent forms of human behaviour,
whomever the perpetrator happens to be,
as a consequence the rot progresses unabated. Where will it all end, is there no end in sight? Unless the powers that be are prepared to stand up,
denounce those complicit in their own organisation and elsewhere, and be
counted, the erosion of values is likely to continue?
The good in society
An obvious question that needs answering is, 'what has caused this decline in societal values in recent times and what precisely are they?'.
Definition:
'Social values are a set of principles that are morally acceptable by society. These principles are created by the dynamics of the community,
institutions in the society, traditions, and cultural beliefs of the people in the society. The laws are a guide for people in society on how
to conduct themselves appropriately'.
Clearly the definition does not declare they are immutable, therefore they may change over time, and this is what is happening. Who or what defines
what these values should be? The answer from a Christian perspective is that God has set the rules and they should therefore not change over time. The Bible
is God's word for all of time for everyone everywhere.
Human beings cannot be arbiters of moral standards because there is no consensus of opinion amongst us, and these standards vary between cultures. This is of
course why society needs an ultimate authority whose rules of engagement are made clear and apply to everyone equally. The Christian Bible is such a source
and its edicts are of an unparalleled, beneficial nature. The problem for society is that church attendance is in steep decline across most denominations,
and Countries in The West, and therefore good Christian teaching is no longer being received by the populace as it once was.
