Definition of misogyny
Wikipedia: Misogyny is hatred of, contempt for, or prejudice against women or girls. It is a form of sexism that can keep women at
a lower social status than men, thus maintaining the social roles of patriarchy. Misogyny has been widely practised for
thousands of years.
Characteristics of misogynist behaviour:
Misogynistic behavior includes intimidating or humiliating a woman, destroying a woman's self-confidence in order to control her,
or blaming a woman for personal failings.
Misogyny is diametrically opposed to the teaching of the Bible. According to Scripture,
all people are absolutely equal in the eyes of God regardless of gender, race, and ability (Galatians 3:28).
The lack of clarity is partly due to factors including the "normalisation" of these incidents in wider society, fear of not being taken seriously and/or fear of victim blaming.
Many women have experienced horrific abuses within the power structures of our Christian world. In reality however there is misogyny
throughout society and always has been, it is not confined to any particular faith or walk of life. Although it is mainly men
targetting women, to a smaller extent it can also be the other way round.
You may be wondering why we are focussing on this issue which appears to have little to do with arguments about the origin of
life.
Well, the spurning of women by men has parallels with rejection of the creation account.
It is another example of man's
rebellion against God's perfect plan for our lives that we abandoned in the Garden of Eden, referred to in chapter 3 of The Bible
as 'The Fall'.
Essentially man is mocking, and belittling what could be regarded as the better half of Creation because women
give birth to future generations with considerable risks to their life and future wellbeing in the process.
Men on the other hand play a much lesser role and suffer none of the pain associated with childbirth, so they should be humbled and
filled with admiration for what their women folk are prepared to do on their behalf. There is little doubt that most men do hold
their female counterparts in high regard, with misogyny manifest to only a small degree in the overall population.
There are many undesirable sites operating on the Internet that we now have to contend with
that are helping fuel the exploitation of, and lack of respect for, women. Television and the media have a lot to answer for
as well in this regard.
According to Internet sources sexual harassment is highly prevalent in schools. It is also gendered, overwhelmingly
involving boys targeting girls. Apparently the use of misogynist language is commonplace in schools. This would not have been the
case in the not too distant past, and we can blame the Internet and social media for this decline in attitudes and standards of
behaviour.
Male chauvinism is a form of misogynism where adult males believe men are superior to women, especially in the
workplace. It is unsubstantiated and counter to societal standards of professionalism and ethics, is a blight on society and
thanks to social media is in danger of becoming more endemic.
Unless largely abandoned, but increasingly necessary, stern disciplinary action is taken in schools this damaging behaviour
will accelerate to the detriment of everyone. It will certainly not improve societies standing in the eyes of God, and
can only further accelerate declining faith in The Creator.
In conclusion, men who practice misogyny/chauvinism would not harbour this disdain for women if they were true believers in the
Wonders of Creation, and the Word of God.
We are all designed by God with a purpose in mind and individuals practicing misogyny
are guilty of not valuing human life as He intended.
The Glory of God's Creation
1. Creation sings the Father's song.
He calls the sun to wake the dawn
And run the course of day
'Til evening falls in crimson rays.
His fingerprints in flakes of snow,
His breath upon this spinning globe;
He charts the eagle's flight;
Commands the newborn baby's cry.

Fill the earth with songs of worship, tell the wonders of creation's King.
2. Creation gazed upon His face;
The ageless One in time's embrace
Unveiled the Father's plan
Of reconciling God to man.
A second Adam walked the earth,

Whose death would set us free
To live with Him eternally.
3. Creation longs for His return,
When Christ shall reign upon the earth;
The bitter wars that rage
Are birth pains of a coming age.
When He renews the land and sky,
All heav'n will sing and earth reply
With one resplendent theme:
The glory of our God and King!
