'ID is the idea that there are certain features of life and the Universe that are best explained by an intelligent cause rather than an undirected process such as natural selection. However, ID is not Creationism. ID is derived purely from scientific observations, not from religious authority. Intelligent Design is not a new idea; it's an ancient idea. Many renowned scientists from the past, Isaac Newton for example, realised that a supreme intellect was responsible for establishing the Cosmos and all that is contained within it. He was in no doubt about this and in "The General Scholium", an essay appended to his work, 'The Principia', arguably one of the greatest scientific papers of all time, he made his position clear. Clearly, ID provides support for religious belief, but it does not propose it or depend on it. Dr Alastair Noble Director of the Centre for Intelligent Design UK '. |
