The lesson of Lot
(last updated: 23rd January 2026)

Extract from 'The Genesis Account' by Dr. Jonathan D. Sarfati

We have included this section from "Chapter 25, Terah and Abraham" because it draws attention to the problem faced by todays young people through exposure to the educational establishments current obsession with evolution based ideology. Lot was an early practitioner of the art of giving immature youngsters the opportunity to make up their own mind about important, life changing, issues rather than being required to heed the advice stemming from the accumulated wisdom of parents. What does Dr. Sarfati have to say:

"Lot should be a salutary lesson for Christian parents today. Christian parents may be able to live in a largely godless world - indeed, we are to be in the world but not of the world (John 14-15). They may well be 'distressed' and 'tormented' as Lot was. But far too many send their children out into the world totally unprepared for it, as Lot did with his daughters. This shows how important it is for parents to be actively involved in their children's education and to make sure the 'fear of the Lord' (Proverbs 1:7, 9:10; Psalm 111:10) is central to it, as opposed to forms of education which actively seek to eliminate God from discussion. Nowadays, most Western schools - both Government and sadly many church schools - actively oppose the truth of God and His Creation, instead teaching the lie of evolution - everything made itself; God is unnecessary at best, and the Bible's early history is wrong. And many also, in effect, teach the sexual immorality of Sodom by actively promoting 'gay rights' and abortion. Then somehow the same parents are shocked that 'when they send the children to Caesar, they come back as Romans.'"

Who can deny the truth of what Dr. Sarati says. Press and TV news coverage, mobile phone apps, etc., are full of accounts of rife criminal activity by youth groups on our streets and uncontrollable behaviour of children in many of our state schools. Sadly, but not surprisingly, this has the effect of spreading the behaviour more widely as it is seen as the norm!
Many parents are not prepared to support action by schools to address this unacceptable behaviour because they have abandoned trying to excercise control in their own homes. It seems that kids now rule the roost in many homes!

What can be done about this societal decline?
There is no simple solution and it is easier to avoid taking action than putting remedial action in motion:
Parents could, for example, accompany their children to their local church on a Sunday so that the family discovers that there is more to life than mobile phones and the watching of violent movies on TV. Messaging apps such as WhatsApp spread disinformation and encourage violent behaviour in young people and little is being done by the owners to exercise greater control place restrictions on their modus operandi. These issues are being exacerbated by the existence of a growing number of single parent families. The single parents are reluctant to impose strict rules of discipline for fear of making themselves unpopular with their offspring. It is difficult for families to thrive and for authority to be maintained if there is only 1 adult present. Parents should pay attention to what their children are doing otherwise there is a grave danger of not noticing if they start to go astray by illegal drug taking, vaping, indulging in undesirable relationships, etc. Without such oversight moral standards will continue to decline to the detriment of all. Lot did little to halt the progression of his daughters immoral sexual behaviour. Turning a blind eye to family issues of any kind is never helpful. Fortunately some Governments are stepping up to try to counter danger to young people from social media platforms banning them to children under 16 years of age. There is now acknowledgement that something has to be done to protect younger generations from easily accessible evil content that is growing exponentially unabated on the Internet.

The Staggering Complexity of the Human Brain

The Glory of God's Creation

1. Creation sings the Father's song.
He calls the sun to wake the dawn
And run the course of day
'Til evening falls in crimson rays.
His fingerprints in flakes of snow,
His breath upon this spinning globe;
He charts the eagle's flight;
Commands the newborn baby's cry.

Refrain:
Hallelujah!
Let all creation stand and sing, "Hallelujah!"
Fill the earth with songs of worship, tell the wonders of creation's King.

2. Creation gazed upon His face;
The ageless One in time's embrace
Unveiled the Father's plan
Of reconciling God to man.
A second Adam walked the earth,
Whose blameless life would break the curse,
Whose death would set us free
To live with Him eternally.

3. Creation longs for His return,
When Christ shall reign upon the earth;
The bitter wars that rage
Are birth pains of a coming age.
When He renews the land and sky,
All heav'n will sing and earth reply
With one resplendent theme:
The glory of our God and King!
